Kitsune Parisien
For the uninitiated, Kitsune Parisien is both a record label and a fashion store, so there's no coincidence that this new compilation is the most achingly gallic selection since the last Kitsune release, probably. Parading minimal 80's synths alongside 21st Century disco it's a wonderful introduction to the sound of the French capital. Beautifully produced tracks from Destin and Birkii kick off proceedings, then there's echoes of Justice and Sebastian until the full culmination by way of Jupiter unleashing the wonderful Sake. For some unknown reason, as this compilation progressed, I convinced myself this was the soundtrack for the French language remake of Y Tu Mama Tambien (or Et Votre Mere, Aussi as it may well be) albeit one where everyone is far too handsome, too much fun is had and a perfect side-parting is a priority; it reeks of cool, eager youth. It's astounding that 200 miles to the North, London is awash with bands trying far too hard when there's an elegant effortlessness emanating from every track on this compilation, even the piano grandeur of Cascadeur (a masked artist whose true identity remains a mystery, apparently) becomes tolerable. Well worth a purchase, either as the perfect companion for a circuit of the Priphrique at 3am, chain smoking Gitanes in your new friend's Citroen DS as you head to yet another party. Or maybe for just a little dance at home.
