Come On, Be A No-One
Combining the raw melody of ‘Hey Scenesters!’ with the dystopian pop catchiness of ‘Our Bovine Public’, The Cribs latest offering from their upcoming 5th studio album In the Belly of the Brazen Bull, is a wholly nostalgic affair.
‘Come on, Be a No-One’ has everything that defined The Cribs, pre- Johnny Marr; minimalist verses, choruses dripping in distortion, from vocals through to drums, and a huge sing-a-long factor. It doesn’t feel like 5th album material, if anything, it sounds like it could have been the natural bridge between The New Fellas and Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever. It is a full-scale return to their roots, without sounding like a blatant, lazy re-hash.
The brothers Jarman seem to be at their best when left to their own devices, so, in some ways Johnny Marr’s departure is a blessing in disguise, especially if they continue to produce three-piece gems such as this.
