Erika M. Anderson was the singer/guitarist for drone mavens Gowns until they broke up in 2010, leaving their members to figure out what to do after a life in indie rock hasn't started paying the bills. But Anderson quickly regrouped under the moniker EMA to record Past Life Martyred Saints, a collection of songs that plays with the quiet-loud dynamic, mixing sheets of noise with hyperbreathless vocals.
