Frank Turner
Love Ire and Song/the First Three Years
Starting with the fantastic 'I Knew Prufrock Before He Got Famous' Frank Turners second solo release builds the reputation of this great lyricist. It is a song that seems like a close realative of 'The Ballad of Me And My Friends' the closing track to debut 'Sleep Is For The Week', telling a story of a tight group of friends and musicians, building slowley into a joyous singalong. Following this sinlges 'Reasons Not To Be An Idiot' and the brilliant 'Photosynthesis' carry on the singalong vibe before slowing the pace for a few tales of love. The Stand out for me is the title track 'Love, Ire & Song' described by Frank live as a song about thinking one thing when you are young and seeing more clearly with age. The final two tracks of absent friends and time on the road are fitting ways to end a fantastic album, from a great storyteller and after all that is where songs began, as stories, so it is good to see someone still telling tales.
