Aretha Franklin
Lady Soul
After the success of I Never Loved A Man, Aretha’s first album for Atlantic, she churned out three more classics the following year in 1968 including this one, Lady Soul. Like that first LP, Atlantic used a mix of Southern and Northern studio musicians and the arranging abilities of Arif Mardin and Tom Dowd. Again, there’s nothing but hits on here beginning with Chain of Fools, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Since You’ve Been Gone and Ain’t No Way, along with lesser known, but just as good reworking of classics like James Brown’s Money Won’t Change You, the Impressions People Get Ready, and Groovin, plus Niki Hoeky.
