New Build
Yesterday Was Lived And Lost
You know about New Build, the brand new project of Hot Chip’s Al Doyle and Felix Martin and their sometime producer Tom Hopkins – you’ve no doubt heard their collaborations with and remixes by Planningtorock, and you’ve likely heard some early singles too – and now you know about their upcoming debut record, Yesterday Was Lived and Lost, which’ll drop April 3.
If you thought Hot Chip were good at purveying a kind of chilly dance-floor anxiety, you ain’t seen nothing yet – these sample tracks might have pounding heartbeats, blurry drones, massive choruses, and enough computerized steel drums for a thousand Sean Paul songs, but they’re also nervous and cold and clinical in a really compelling way that almost reminds us of Talking Heads. You can stream “Do You Not Feel Loved?” “Mercy,” “Finding Reasons,” and the previously released “Misery Loves Company” below – we’re partial to the first two.
