60s 70s back in stock on 180 gram vinyl the new yorkborn singer songwriter and pianist laura nyro achieved considerable critical acclaim with her own recordings and had commercial success with artists such as barbra streisand and the 5th dimension recording her songs her style was a hybrid of brill buildingstyle new york pop jazz gospel rhythm and blues show tunes rock and soul 'eli and the 13th confession' is her second album originally released in 1968 being one of the year's underground successes the album's themes are of passion love romance death and drugs and the songs are delivered in nyro's distinctive brash neooperatic vocals musically it is a multilayered and opulent work with features including a band multitracked vocals jazz instrumentation and strings nyro premiered some of the songs at the legendary 1967 monterey pop festival
