Joss Stone
The Soul Sessions Volume 1
Vinyl re-issue of Joss Stone’s Mercury Prize nominated album The Soul Sessions, Volume 1. The album entered the U.K. Albums chart at number 89, and eventually peaked at number 4 in its fifth week, with the British Phonographic Society certifying it triple platinum. It has since sold more than a million copies in the UK. A 16-year-old white British girl singing covers of American soul classics? Odd as it may sound, that is the recipe for a hit, as evidenced by this debut album for Dover, teenager Joss Stone, who tackled works by everyone from Aretha Franklin to, well, the White Stripes. The Soul Sessions were produced by Miami soul singer Betty Wright and S-Curve Records chief executive officer Steve Greenberg. Stone worked with veteran Miami soul musicians Benny Latimore, Little Beaver, Timmy Thomas and Wright herself. She also worked with contemporary musicians such as neo soul singer Angie Stone and The Roots.
