60s 70s remastered version with new liner notes written by beefheart expert mike barnes captain beefheart and the magic band recorded thirteen albums over fifteen years which given their frequency chart one of the most fertile musical minds of the late twentieth century one of the five studioalbums in this remastered series 'shiny beast bat chain puller' was first put to tape under its original title bat chain puller in 1974 but due to typically complex beefheart legal and personal reasons only saw the light of day with its 'shiny' new title and rerecording in 1980 with a bigger and smoother sound than the original version it remains the most joyous sounding captain beefheart album and marked a return to classic beefheart form with the album being thrilling hilarious and deeply unusual in equal parts
