After a 3 interconnected solo albums ('The Nightfly', 'Kamakiriad' & 'Morph The Cat' comprised the project known as 'the Nightfly Trilogy'), Steely Dan's leader wanted this record to stand on its own.
Sunken Condos includes 8 originals & a cover of Isaac Hayes' 'Out of the Ghetto'. The quizzical chord sequences, supple instrumental interplay & teasingly cryptic lyrics will be instantly familiar to students of his work & indeed of the later days of Steely Dan. Some familiar names from the Steely Dan family of players are on hand (Jon Herington, the Steely Dan horns, Freddie Washington) plus some new faces. The word is that, from now on, everything Donald does has got to be funky.
